Taizé Services:
"Singing is one of the most essential elements of worship. Short songs, repeated again and again, give it a meditative character. Using just a few words they express a basic reality of faith, quickly grasped by the mind. As the words are sung over many times, this reality gradually penetrates the whole being. Meditative singing thus becomes a way of listening to God. It allows everyone to take part in a time of prayer together and to remain together in attentive waiting on God."

As a part of our mission to promote quality liturgical experiences for the church community, FLM sponsors Taizé services periodically in churches throughout the Birmingham area. These services quite often coincide with Lent and Advent as they are an inspirational way to usher in the penitential seasons of the church year. However, Taizé services are an appropriate way to expand the worship experience at any time of year. We work closely with the parish clergy and the musical staff in order to build a knowledge base for the musicians and choir members, as well as for the congregation so that they are able to carry on the tradition on their own.

Free - Open to the Public
YMMS is a one-day workshop based on the concept of our annual Music Ministry Series. This workshop, held every other year, is based specifically on the needs of youth who would like to become more deeply involved in the music and liturgical needs of their parishes. YMMS features instructors who are well-known for their work with youth as well as for composing music and worship material designed specifically for young people.
The next YMMS will be held in Winter, 2008-09. Be watching for updates and information.
